The Chairman of the Rome Floyd Development Authority called Missy Kendrick “a home-run hire” when the Authority voted unanimously to bring her on board in July 2019. “I saw this job as an opportunity to work in a medium – to a larger – sized community,” says Kendrick. “For 2020, we were named to the Top 100 MSAs of our size in economic development in the country, so we’ve had a lot of success over the last two and a half years.” In its 2020 Best Performing Cities report, the Milken Institute ranked the Rome Metropolitan Statistical Area No. 73, up 19 sports from its No. 92 ranking in 2018. The recognition was based on more than $810 million in capital investment that created 581 jobs, Kendrick says. Of that annual investment in 2020, Ball Corp. spent $220 million and created 180 new jobs when it opened a dedicated aluminum cups manufacturing facility in Rome. “As economic developers, we have a hand in helping to create jobs and create positive change in the community,” Kendrick says. “It’s the best job in the world.”
