Rome’s Hydro Dynamics recognized for expanding business to new countries
Rome’s Hydro Dynamics has been recognized again by the Georgia Department of Economic Development for continually expanding their business into new international markets.
Hydro Dynamics was awarded a 2023 GLOBE award for its expansion into Mexico, South Africa and Slovenia, where their ExtractMor technology is used in hops extraction for breweries and biogas.
“In Mexico and South Africa we’re working with brewers, and biogas in Slovenia,” said Doug Mancosky, chief science officer of Hydro Dynamics and CEO of XtractMor. “Since the craft beer market exploded, the cost of good hops has exploded as well, so we’re able to get the hop flavor out more efficiently, saving brewers money for hops and increasing the flavor profile.”
Hydro Dynamics is a 30-year-old company based in Rome that develops machines that typically use “controlled cavitation” in the processing of fluids.
However, XtractMor was created in 2016 so that customers wouldn’t confuse its brewing and distilling focus with the parent company’s petroleum and biofuels technologies.
“We continue to see increasing international demand for our product, especially in the brewery industry,” said Mancosky. “We’re honored to once again be recognized with the GLOBE Award and appreciate their ongoing assistance in helping us reach new markets.”
The company developed a breakthrough technology for processing industrial fluids. Its applications range from the brewing and distilling of alcoholic beverages to biofuels, petroleum and chemistry.
“A lot of times if you add hops, one-third or so go to flavor and the others go to waste,” Mancosky said previously. “The ShockWave Xtractor cavitation technology allows brewers to extract more of the oils in the hops and cut down their use of the plant, which is one of the most expensive parts of the brewing process.”
The GLOBE Awards program began in 2014 as a way to recognize local businesses contributing to Georgia’s economic growth through global trade.
This year, 27 Georgia companies received GLOBE Awards. Approximately 85% of the winners are small businesses like Hydro Dynamics, with fewer than 100 employees.
GLOBE Award winners collectively expanded their sales into 55 separate countries during 2022.
Mancosky stated that they are on six of seven continents now. At one point, he told the Rome-Floyd County Development Authority board, they toyed with the idea of sending a 3D printed model to Antarctica to be on all seven continents. But, for now at least, that plan is on hold as they continue working on expanding into more international markets.
